"......After
briefly considering international law's treatment of scientific freedom and
scientists' social responsibilities, Claude turns to these efforts. They fall
into four categories: (1) avoidance of complicity by scientists (including
physicians) in government conduct that violates internationally recognized
civil and political rights or humanitarian law (the law of war), (2) use of
science to document breaches of human rights and humanitarian law, (3)
advocacy for broader interpretations of human rights and humanitarian law, and
(4) promotion of social and economic rights, especially rights to health and
to the benefits of scientific progress...."
